Políticas locais e promoção do bem-estar no envelhecimento : o papel dos espaços séniores

Abstract

O envelhecimento demográfico constitui, atualmente, uma das principais características e desafios na sociedade contemporânea. A presente dissertação pretendeu analisar, na perspetiva dos utentes, os motivos que levaram as pessoas idosas a procurar e a frequentar os Espaços Sénior em funcionamento no Município de Cascais. Procurou-se perceber em que medida esta resposta social atende às necessidades e expectativas dos utilizadores, o modelo de funcionamento e qualidade dos serviços prestados, assim como o seu impacto no bem-estar da pessoa idosa. O estudo, de natureza qualitativa, incidiu numa amostra de 26 indivíduos, dos quais 2 são profissionais e os restantes utilizadores dos Espaços Sénior. Como instrumentos de recolha de dados utilizou-se a entrevista semiestruturada às assistentes sociais responsáveis pelos Espaços Sénior e um guião orientador da recolha de informação junto dos frequentadores, realizada através da técnica de focus group. Os dados foram, posteriormente, sujeitos a análise de conteúdo. Os resultados permitiram identificar que as pessoas idosas procuram este tipo de resposta social sobretudo pela diversidade de atividades que a resposta oferece, tendo sido possível verificar que os participantes têm uma perceção positiva quanto ao seu funcionamento e organização, assim como sobre a influência na sua vida quotidiana, afirmando melhoria do seu bem-estar após terem iniciado a frequência dos Espaços. Os resultados possibilitam, também, analisar o papel do assistente social na dinamização dos Espaços Séniores, bem como identificar elementos de natureza reflexiva que se pretende venham a contribuir para melhorar a qualidade dos serviços prestados à população idosa.

Demographic ageing is currently one of the main characteristics and challenges in contemporary society. This dissertation aimed to analyze, from the perspective of users, the reasons that led older people to seek and attend the Senior Spaces operating in the Municipality of Cascais. We sought to understand the extent to which this social response meets the needs and expectations of users, the operating model and quality of services services provided, as well as its impact on the well-being of the elderly. The study, of a qualitative nature, focused on a sample of 26 individuals, of which 2 are professionals and the remaining users of the Senior Spaces. The data collection instruments used were a semi-structured interview with the social workers responsible for the Senior Spaces and a guiding script for the collection of information from the users, carried out through the focus group technique. The data were subsequently subjected to content analysis. The results allowed to identify that the elderly people seek this type of social response mainly for the diversity of activities that the response offers, having been possible to verify that the participants have a positive perception regarding its operation and organization, as well as the influence on their daily lives, affirming improvement of their well-being after having started attending the Spaces. The results also make it possible to analyze the role of the social worker in the dynamization of Senior Spaces, as well as to identify elements of a reflective nature that are intended to contribute to improving the quality of services provided to the elderly population.
