Património e turismo : a reabilitação da Casa do Mirante de Monforte

Abstract

O património construído é, cada vez mais, adaptado para fins turísticos, sendo este reuso impulsionado quer pela vontade privada, quer estatal. Estes edifícios, portadores de características, valores e identidade únicos carecem de proteção, sendo necessário pensar e perceber os impactos e formas de inserção deste novo uso no património. Desta forma surge a questão central desta dissertação: De que forma o turismo se torna um aliado benéfico à conservação e reabilitação do Património Arquitetónico? Assim, a investigação incide na compreensão da relação entre o património e o turismo, aplicado particularmente ao caso de estudo na região norte do Alentejo, tendo como base o papel vital que o património acarreta na evolução histórica de uma comunidade e a forma como este deve ser intervencionado, definida através de referências teóricas e doutrinais. Dividida em três fases, esta investigação inicia-se com o estudo teórico sobre o património, a casa tradicional urbana alentejana, a Casa do Mirante e os seus valores. Ainda na primeira fase é abordado o tema do turismo e o laço entre este e o património onde procuramos perceber os confrontos advindos desta relação. Numa segunda fase, com base nos pressupostos teóricos, são selecionados três casos de referência onde, através do projeto de reabilitação e da função turística introduzida, analisamos como foram mantidos os valores, de que forma foi conseguida a relação entre o edifício e a nova função e qual o impacto destas intervenções nas populações locais. Após o processo de recolha de informação e da análise dos casos de aplicação prática, na última fase, são utilizados os princípios assimilados na proposta de intervenção para objeto de estudo conseguida através da descrição textual e desenhos. Posto isto, o projeto de reabilitação proposto para a Casa do Mirante de Monforte procura estabelecer uma harmonia na relação entre o edifício e a nova função, conservando os valores e conciliando a atividade turística com as atividades existentes, de maneira a perpetuar seu o significado no seio da comunidade local.

The built heritage is increasingly being adapted for touristic purposes, with this reuse being driven by both private and state interests. These buildings, which possess unique characteristics, values, and identity, require protection, and it is necessary to consider and understand the impacts and ways of integrating this new use into the heritage. Thus, the central question of this dissertation arises: How can tourism become a beneficial ally for the conservation and rehabilitation of Architectural Heritage? Therefore, the research focuses on understanding the relationship between heritage and tourism, applied particularly to the case study in the northern region of Alentejo, based on the vital role that heritage carries in the historical evolution of a community and how it should be intervened, defined through theoretical and doctrinal references. Divided into three phases, this research begins with the theoretical study of heritage, the traditional urban Alentejo house, the Casa do Mirante, and its values. Still, in the first phase, the theme of tourism and the link between it and heritage is approached, where we seek to understand the confrontations arising from this relationship. In the second phase, based on theoretical assumptions, three reference cases are selected where, through the rehabilitation project and the introduced touristic function, we analyze how the values were maintained, how the relationship between the building and the new function was achieved, and what the impact of these interventions was on the local populations. After the information collection process and the analysis of practical application cases, in the final phase, the assimilated principles are used in the intervention proposal for the study object achieved through textual description and drawings. Thus, the proposed rehabilitation project for the Casa do Mirante de Monforte seeks to establish harmony in the relationship between the building and the new function, preserving the values and reconciling touristic activity with existing activities, in a way that perpetuates its meaning within the local community.
