Azulejos portugueses da influência “Arts and Crafts” da Casa de Roque Gameiro, Amadora

Abstract

A Casa Roque Gameiro, na Amadora, alberga quatro silhares de azulejos, de grande qualidade, integráveis no movimento Arts and Crafts, movimento fundamentado e posto em prática por William Morris a partir da ideologia estética de John Ruskin, em Inglaterra, em especial através da firma Morris & Co, ideias que serão também veiculadas a partir de propostas Arte Nova (em especial da Jugenstil e da Modern Style). Neste artigo tenta-se perceber o percurso genético destes silhares, através de três figuras: Rafael Bordalo Pinheiro, Raul Lino e do promotor da obra, Alfredo Roque Gameiro (em especial dos dois últimos).

The Casa Roque Gameiro, in Amadora, houses four tiled ashlars, of high quality, integrated in the Arts and Crafts, movement founded and implemented by William Morris, through the aesthetic ideology of John Ruskin, in England, in particular from the firm Morris & Co, ideas that will also broadcast from New Art proposals (in particular the Jugenstil and the Modern Style). In this article we try to understand the genetic pathway of the tiled ashlars, through three figures: Rafael Bordalo Pinheiro, Raul Lino and the owner of the work, Alfredo Roque Gameiro (particularly the latter two).
