Prematuridade e PHDA : o que nos diz a investigação

Abstract

As dificuldades de atenção e hiperatividade surgem com frequência na literatura científica associadas à prematuridade e/ou baixo peso à nascença. Crianças prematuras parecem, de forma consistente, apresentar dificuldades ao nível das funções executivas, particularmente da atenção, dependendo o grau da dificuldade de fatores como a idade gestacional, a idade no momento da avaliação e as variáveis específicas em estudo. Serão as crianças prematuras distraídas e hiperativas? O presente artigo visa apresentar o estado da arte da investigação quanto à relação entre prematuridade e/ou baixo peso à nascença e o surgimento posterior de comportamentos de hiperatividade e défice de atenção. De forma complementar, apresentam-se orientações no que respeita à intervenção nesta população.

Attention difficulties and hyperactivity often arise in the scientific literature associated with prematurity and/or low birth weight. Premature infants appear to, consistently, present difficulties in terms of executive functions, particularly attention. The level of difficulty depends on factors such as the gestational age, the age at the moment of assessment and the dimensions studied. Are premature infants hyperactive and distracted? This article aims to present the state of the art in what concerns to the relationship between prematurity/low birth weight, and the subsequent emergence of behaviors of hyperactivity and attention deficit. Complementarily, guidelines are presented in order to support clinical interventions within this population.
