O conceito da ruína na arquitectura portuguesa contemporânea

Abstract

A presente investigação tem como base de estudo a ruína, e pretende a compreensão das suas origens, a exaustiva e despreocupada representação da mesma e o começo da sua valorização. Simultaneamente tenciona também estudar o modo de intervenção nestas, através de sistemas arquitectónicos contemporâneos que viabilizam a valorização arquitectónica, patrimonial e histórica do edificado, permitindo também que muito deste património sobreviva ao abandono e esquecimento, iniciando um novo ciclo e concedendo-lhe assim uma nova oportunidade, um novo uso, uma nova vida. Trata-se de um ciclo que pretende a adaptação de estruturas históricas e culturais às necessidades de hoje, e acima de tudo propõe a preservação de um legado patrimonial muito amplo e diverso, que perdurará às marcas deixadas pelo tempo através de um percurso de consideração e ponderação pela história e pelas suas características originais. O foco desta investigação passa também pela análise de intervenções contemporâneas em ruínas, mas em que cada caso de estudo se considera um antagonismo do anterior, ou seja, a causa do estado avançado de degradação do edifício é diferente em cada caso. Mas para que o estudo dos mesmos fosse possível, foi necessária uma reflexão e análise das diferentes teorias e tratados europeus e uma investigação coesa, focada em Portugal e nos edifícios em ruína ou em estado avançado de degradação, que sofreram intervenções desde a criação da Direcção-Geral dos Edifícios e Monumentos Nacionais até aos dias de hoje, através da análise dos casos de estudo escolhidos.

The present investigation is based on the study of ruin, and intends to understand its origins, the exhaustive and carefree representation of the same and the beginning of its valorization. Simultaneously, it also intends to analyze the forms of intervention in them, through contemporary architectural systems that enable the architectural, patrimonial and historic valorization, allowing also, that much of this heritage survives through the abandonment and neglection, starting a new cycle and ensuring it a new opportunity, a new use, a new life. It is a cycle that seeks to adapt historical and cultural structures to the needs of today, and above all proposes the preservation of a very wide and diverse heritage legacy, which will stand to the marks left by time through a course of consideration and deliberation for history and its original characteristics. This investigation also focus on the analysis of contemporary interventions in ruins, but each case study is considered an antagonism of the previous, in other words, the cause of the building advanced state of degradation is different in each case. But to be possible the study of them, it was necessary to reflect and analyze the different European theories and treaties and also do a cohesive research focused on Portugal and on the buildings in ruin or in an advanced state of degradation who suffered some interventions since the creation of the Direcção Geral dos Edifícios e Monumentos Nacionais up until today, through the analysis of the chosen case studies.
