Reabilitação do edifício "C" no centro histórico de Braga : um instrumento para a intervenção no quarteirão

Abstract

O presente trabalho desperta a curiosidade sobre o desenvolvimento do casco histórico da cidade de Braga. A evolução da morfologia e cronologia da cidade é aqui retratada e comparada através da análise de fotografias e mapas que nos demonstram as transformações sociais e urbanas ao longo dos tempos. No entanto é no quarteirão “torna-viagem”, localizado a sul da rua Dom Paio Mendes (rua da Sé Catedral de Braga), que centramos o nosso estudo. Numa breve análise ao quarteirão, identificamos o património aí existente, a sua relevância e as diversas transformações urbanas que caraterizaram este quarteirão. A estrutura desta dissertação tem como conteúdos programáticos a evolução histórica e morfológica da cidade de Braga, a evolução do quarteirão em análise e a sua importância para o desenvolvimento e regeneração urbana, a análise ao edifício a intervir, a compreensão de um caso similar de referência e por fim a intervenção/reabilitação do edifício - Hostel de Charme. O seu estado atual de degradação surge como uma oportunidade de projetar e atribuir novas funções ao edificado. O crescimento do turismo em Braga e a falta de equipamentos deste cariz, com os elementos históricos que o mesmo contém, torna o edifício uma potencialidade a ter em atenção. Este trabalho pretende contribuir e incentivar para a preservação do espaço público e privado, nomeadamente de edifícios em estado devoluto situados nos centros históricos, trazendo as suas qualidades enquanto objetos arquitetónicos e artísticos de um centro histórico, neste caso, na cidade de Braga.

This work arise the curiosity about the development of the historical center of the city of Braga. The morphologic and chronologic evolution of the city is here portrayed and compared by the analysis of photographs and maps that show us the social and urban changes over the time. However it’s on the city block "returntrip" located at South of the Street Dom Paio Mendes (street Cathedral of Braga), that we focus our study. With a brief analysis of the city block, we identify the existing heritage, it’s relevance and the varied urban transformations that characterize this city block. The structure of this thesis have as program contents the historical and morphological evolution of the city of Braga, the evolution of the city block analyzed and it’s importance to the development and the urban regeneration, the analysis of the building to intervene, the comprehension of a similar case of study and finally the intervention / rehabilitation of the building - The Charm Hostel. Its current state of degradation emerges as an opportunity to design and assign new functions to the building. The growth of tourism in Braga and the lack of equipments of this nature, with it’s historical elements, makes the building a potentiality to look out for. This work aims to contribute and encourage the preservation of the public and private places, including damaged buildings in vacant state located in the historical centers, bringing it’s qualities as architectural and artistical objects from the historical center, in this case, in the city of Braga.
