Os militares estrangeiros em Portugal no século XVI : elementos para a compreensão do fenómeno

Abstract

Portugal participou da revolução militar europeia de finais do século XV de uma forma diferente, mercê da contingência geopolítica própria e da tipologia de guerra que sedimentou e aperfeiçoou. A Coroa foi a principal mentora da modernidade política que a nova arte militar comportou.

Portugal soon took part of the military revolution since the late XVth century but in a different way because of its geographical and political position and of its own way of war. The Crown became the main thrust to the military innovations within a framework of solid Portuguese war culture.
