Arquitectura industrial na paisagem rural : uma oficina de produção doceira integrada em Castro Laboreiro

Abstract

Resumo: No contexto da problemática em que se insere a presente dissertação, é apresentada a convergência de duas tendências ligadas à transformação dos meios rurais: o aumento das ameaças, de um lado, e as preocupações com o património industrial, do outro. As áreas rurais portuguesas, sendo na sua maioria áreas em declínio social e económico, parecem atualmente reunir as condições necessárias a uma renovada atratividade, especialmente as voltadas para o regresso às tradições e à natureza. A reabilitação destas áreas passa pela captação de novas atividades económicas e novos mercados, residentes e visitantes. Reconhecendo que para intervir é necessário o conhecimento da história, pretende-se, pois, conhecer e compreender a origem, os valores e a história dos vestígios industriais em Portugal, assim como a sua contribuição para o desenvolvimento económico, social e cultural e, ainda, a sua infl uência na evolução das restantes tipologias, em termos dimensionais, formais, conceptuais, materiais e estéticos. O património industrial, normalmente associado à revolução industrial, deve entender-se num período mais longo, sendo a revolução industrial o momento de mudança, transformação e sincretismo das fases pré-industriais, manufatureiras e industriais. Após incessantes pesquisas, várias visitas ao local e diversas conversas com os habitantes locais, concluímos que Castro Laboreiro poderá adquirir uma maior atratividade com a integração de uma ofi cina - dispositivo turístico, social e económico - respeitando o espírito do lugar, integrando mão-de-obra local, rentabilizando os produtos locais, preservando o património, conciliando técnicas de design com ofícios, melhorando o modo de vida dos habitantes. Para a execução da obra conta-se com o espírito comunitário, conseguindo-se uma obra de interesse arquitetónico, a baixo custo. Como resultado espera-se o aumento da atividade turística, promovendo-se consequentemente a fixação de mais população e a valorização local.

Abstract: In the context of the problem of this thesis, it is presented the convergence of two trends related to the transformation of rural areas: increased threats on the one hand, and concerns about the industrial heritage on the other. The Portuguese rural areas, being mostly areas in social and economic decline, currently seem to meet the necessary conditions for a renewed attractiveness, especially those related to the return to traditions and nature. The rehabilitation of these areas involves the uptake of new economic activities and new markets, residents and visitors. Recognizing that necessity of the knowledge of history in order to intervene, it is intended, therefore, to know and understand the origin, values and history of industrial remains in Portugal, as well as its contribution to the economic, social and cultural development, and also its infl uence on the evolution of other types, in dimensional terms, formal, conceptual, and aesthetic materials. Industrial heritage, usually associated with the industrial revolution, it should be understood in a longer period, with the industrial revolution the moment of change, transformation and syncretism of the pre-industrial, industrial and manufacturing. After endless research, several site visits and several conversations with the locals, it is concluded that Castro Laboreiro may acquire greater attractiveness with the integration of a workshop – a tourist, social and economic device - with the spirit of the place, integrating local hand work, maximizing local products, preserving heritage, combining design techniques with crafts, improving the livelihood of the inhabitants. Community spirit is essential for the execution of the work in order to achieve a work of architectural interest, at low cost. As a result of that the increase in tourist activity is expected, thus promoting the setting up of more population and valuation site.
